The runway reports are in, and the verdicts are unanimous: men’s jewelry has never been hotter. While many men are eager to expand their personal collection of accessories, few want to purchase something that will soon be outdated. Fortunately, several prevalent trends are classic enough to have serious staying power. Here are five of the biggest trends in styles of jewelry for men right now that will continue to look good for years to come.
Leather bracelets. With a casual yet classic look, men’s leather bracelets are one of this season’s must have styles of jewelry for men. Ranging from woven or braided to single strand to double wrap styles, these leather armbands run the gamut from rustic to sophisticated. The most popular colors being seen in leather bracelets also reflect the current trends in menswear: classic brown and black, as well as more eye-catching choices like blue and deep orange.
Statement cufflinks. Cufflinks are seeing a big revival, largely due to the resurgence of a vintage look in menswear (more on this in a minute). Cufflinks are a perfect way for even the most jewelry averse man to add a certain finishing touch to a dressier ensemble. Stainless steel, sterling silver cufflinks and cufflinks with an intricate design or “surprise” detail (like a stone accent) are particularly in season.
Vintage style. Thanks to shows like Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire, vintage men’s style is making a major comeback. It’s easy to see why vintage styles of jewelry are in such demand: they offer a certain stylish flair while retaining a classic masculine look. Cufflinks, oversized rings and precious metal watches are all part of this return to traditional manliness in men’s jewelry.
Gold jewelry. Another major trend in men’s styles of jewelry is gold. Not only does gold jewelry dovetail nicely into the vintage trend, but many men are finding that yellow gold provides a handsome contrast to the basic menswear palette of blacks, browns and grays.
Oversized items. Bigger is definitely better this season when it comes to accessories. The most popular oversized styles of jewelry are undeniably men’s pendant necklaces and rings. Oversized rings once again fit nicely into the vintage trend, and are being frequently seen with semi-precious gemstones like onyx and turquoise. Statement men’s pendants and oversized chains are perhaps the biggest surprise, but design elements like wood and leather insets make for a decidedly masculine impression.
Given the overarching classic appeal of these types of items, it’s never been easier to find styles of jewelry that are at once trendy, timeless and fit in with your own personal style.
